calor has welcomed the Chancellors Budget announcement that there will be a 6 pence per kilogram duty cut for liquefied petroleum gas. This would equate to a duty cut of around 3 pence per litre, meaning that LPG vehicles owners would typically pay less than 40 pence per litre for their fuel.
Calor spokesman Andrew Ford said that the Chancellor has recognised the environmental benefits of LPG and was particularly timely given the Prime Ministers speech earlier this week in which he promoted the green agenda for business.
We welcome this cut in duty as it recognises the role that LPG play in reducing harmful emissions and contributing to the Governments stated environmental targets, he said. We supported the case put by the LPG Association as part of the Governments Green Fuels Challenge and were pleased that the sound environmental benefits have been acknowledged.
The duty reduction will also maintained in real terms until at least 2004, but LPG already enjoys a substantial tax differential with petrol and diesel, hence the pump price of around half the cost of traditional fuels.
The LPG network is growing all the time as motorists recognise the benefits, added Andrew Ford. Government has seen fit to recognise the environmental advantages of LPG and has committed to maintaining that position for the foreseeable future.
