Alternative Fuels Forum

Proving that the environment and cost savings can go hand in hand Calor Autogas, BAA and Forum for the Future have teamed up to run an Alternative Fuels Forum at the Copthorne Effingham Hotel, on the 27th February 2001. The event is aimed at explaining the benefits and uses for alternative fuels to facilities and fleet managers.

With the new Climate Change Levy coming into effect in April, businesses are under pressure to reduce their emissions and become more environmentally friendly. In addition consumers are more aware of the environment around them. Demands for better air quality and reduced noise pollution are increasingly on the public agenda.

One of the most delicate subjects is the use of fuel. This was highlighted recently by the escalating fuel prices, leading to the nation halting fuel protest. With all these issues to consider facilities managers are looking to alternative fuels for solutions.

Paul Oxford, sales development manager for Calor Autogas explained, “As an industry leading alternative fuel supplier, supplying liquefied petroleum gas, LPG we felt that it was up to us to make this day happen. We have tailored the event to highlight the issues that matter to fleet and facilities managers and provide them with sound objective advice from industry experts.

“Through our work with BAA, who are running a fleet of LPG powered buses at Gatwick airport and our links with Forum for the Future, we have brought together key experts in the alternative fuel sector.

“With the size and diversity of airports such as Gatwick, we saw this event as an excellent opportunity to educate managers in a variety of different sectors. We also identified the need for workshops, giving managers the opportunity to discuss their fuel issues.

“With day to day work pressures and time constraints, managers don’t have the time to learn about alternative fuels and alternative solutions to current problems. The running costs of cars and other vehicles are often seen as a necessary evil that can’t be tackled. There are however savings to be made with LPG. Fleet operators have saved up to 50% on their fuel costs and reduced their maintenance bills, due to the clean burning qualities of LPG.

“The installation of on-site bulk tanks reduces costs further and provides a central point for refuelling. In addition there is a growing network of LPG filling stations through out the UK, increasing the options available to fleet managers. “

As industry leader, calor has been supplying LPG for more than 70 years.
